Youth Entrepreneurship Day in Tsim Sha Tsui

Organized by the Youth Employment Start (Y.E.S.) of the Labour Department, the "Chill Bazaar 2023 - Youth Entrepreneurship Day" will be held in the atrium of Phase 1 of the Miramar Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui today and tomorrow (4 and 5). Nearly 20 stalls with different characteristics will be present, including stalls selling wood crafts, party goods and original board games, etc. The trainers of this year's event also described that most of the stalls are diversified and have become more mature. Event trainers also described this year's stalls as diversified and mostly mature. Many of the stallholders had experience in organizing bazaars before, but they pointed out that the event had provided them with training and consultation to help them prepare for organizing bazaars, unlike the past when they had to rely on their own, and they believed that their experience would help them to continue organizing bazaars in the future.

The Youth Employment Start (Y.E.S.) of the Labour Department (LD) organizes the Youth Entrepreneurship Day (Y.E.S.) every year to provide a platform for young people who are interested in or in the process of setting up a retail business for handmade/creative products to receive free training and to try out their businesses. This year's participants went through interviews, training courses and consultation before setting up a bazaar in the atrium of Miramar Plaza I in Tsim Sha Tsui today.

According to Hung Kin Wai, a cross-media producer and speaker of the Self-Employed Retailer Training Program, who has worked with Y.E.S. for many times, this year's bazaar received more than 90 applications, which is the largest number ever, and this year's bazaar is not only diversified, but also most of the brands are very mature, "some of them are already mature even if they are participating in (the) bazaar for the first time.

Among the 20 stalls, Rosy Date, a brand founded by Wing and his friends, specializes in party housewares and boutique products, including card-like bottle openers, stainless steel ice pellets in various shapes, gift guns and wine glasses.

Wing mentioned that she started to launch different products at the end of last year, and also held bazaars in other places. However, she said that the rent for bazaars in Tsimshatsui was expensive and the stall period was tight, so she did not have the chance to try it out in the past, and participating in the activity this time was a good opportunity for her to try out her bazaar in Tsimshatsui.

On the first day of the bazaar today, Wing also saw her first business, with an overseas visitor buying a set of heart-shaped stainless steel ice pellets at her stall as a wedding gift for her daughter, who is about to get married soon, and said she hoped that the bazaar in Tsim Sha Tsui would double the business of other bazaars.

Another stall, Moodies, specializes in aromatherapy candles and scent diffusers. The stall owner, Sinn Ying, has also participated in bazaars in other places in the past and has always wanted to try setting up a stall in Tsim Sha Tsui. She also shared that there were more people than expected stopping by her stall this afternoon to choose products, and they had a high desire to spend money, which made her think that her stall was doing well.

She also pointed out that there was training and consultation during the event, during which the instructors would teach the participants how to prepare for the bazaar, including advice on the positioning of the stalls, the quantity of goods, pricing, etc., which was different from the previous bazaar in which she had to rely on her own, and said that this experience would be helpful to her in the future bazaar.

Local board game design studio and publisher z000 studio also brought a few board games to the fair. Donald, the founder of z000 studio, mentioned that even though he had participated in overseas exhibitions and book fairs in the past, he still found it difficult to promote their games and hoped that participating in the fair would bring their board games to a wider audience.

The Wooden House, which participates in the market with wooden crafts, was originally an organization providing parent-child woodworking classes. Winnie, one of the founders, said that all the products on site were designed for this bazaar, and she wanted to take this opportunity to explore the market of her wooden crafts. She added that tomorrow, she will launch the material kits for the weekday woodworking classes, so that customers can make their own woodwork after buying them at home.

Democratic primary defendant Pang Chi-ming admitted that in order to cater to the pro-independence voters, he "pretended to be more radical than he actually is" during the primary. The judge questioned why Pang did not join the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), to which Pang replied that the DAB would have lost under the prevailing social atmosphere at that time. The judge also questioned why Pang included promises in his platform that he would not fulfill, and whether this was deceiving the voters. Pang claimed that the voters have clear judgment and that is why he received fewer votes.
