China's first integrated circuit computer

On August 26, 1973, China's first integrated circuit computer with 1 million calculations per second was successfully trial-produced in Beijing.

On the same day, Peking University, Beijing Cable Power Plant, Ministry of Petrochemicals and other units received news that surprised the whole country. China's first integrated circuit computer jointly developed by them was successfully trial-produced and can perform one million operations per second. This is a major achievement in the history of contemporary Chinese science and technology development and can be called a milestone in the history of Chinese computer development.

After the successful trial production, the computer went through more than 3,000 hours of trial operation, with stable performance and good quality, meeting the predetermined design requirements and becoming a major achievement in the development of science and technology in China at that time. After the reform and opening up, China's computer development has been changing with each passing day, and breakthroughs have been made in research and development. On June 20, 2016, at the World Supercomputing Conference (ISC) in Frankfurt organized by the TOP500 organization, the first domestic supercomputer system "Sunway TaihuLight" built with domestic processors topped the list, becoming the top computer system at the time. The world's first supercomputer capable of over a billion operations.

Since the founding of New China, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has always attached great importance to the development of science and technology. In January 1956, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held a meeting on the issue of intellectuals. Zhou Enlai delivered the "Report on the Issue of Intellectuals" and issued a call to the entire party and the people of the country to "march towards modern science." Mao Zedong's speech on the last day of the meeting called on the entire party to study scientific and technological knowledge and strive to quickly catch up with the world's advanced scientific level, which greatly inspired the majority of scientific and technological workers. After the meeting, a scientific upsurge was quickly set off across the country. With the strong support of the state, a group of scientific and technical workers have devoted themselves to scientific knowledge and research and development, including the development of computers.

In 1952, under the leadership of Hua Luogeng, Xia Peisu, Min Naida, and Wang Chuanying formed China's first computer research group, which opened up the road for the initial development of Chinese computers. After hard research, Xia Peisu was responsible for the design and development of the Universal Electronic Digital Computer 107 in 1958. This was China's first self-developed universal electronic digital computer. Facts and actions proved that the Chinese were capable of developing their own computers at that time. , which is also known as China's first generation computer.
